First time I saw Voivod live was the Killing Technology tour. I admit that I have extreme nostalgia for the 4 guys that made one of my favorite albums of all time (Dimension Hatröss) Snake is one of my favorite singers ever. So I was a little disappointed that Snake would not be performing at the Francavilla al Mare, Italy show. I was happy Eric filled in and the show did not get canceled, but I was really looking forward to see Snake.
BUT….. OMG!!!!!!!!!
I am not sure what the other shows have been like on this tour, but watching Voivod at Frantic Fest, I feel positive that I was watching the best current metal band in the world. The show was absolutely stunning!! It was not a legacy act out for nostalgia. it was four amazing musicians at the top of their game, giving everything on stage. Even if I had never heard anything from Voivod before, and I was seeing them for the first time this week, the band I saw that night would be one of my favorite new bands. It was the best show I have seen in years by any band!!!
As I said, I love Snake and I am looking forward to seeing him again soon, but last night was mind blowing. Eric was not there as a substitute for Snake. The band created something new with the unique energy and character of that line up and it was amazing!!! I feel blessed that I got to be there.
